Volunteer at the Apex Store

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Apex ReStore! The store expansion will almost double our sales floor space, which means we need new volunteers to help us process donations, run the cash register, and merchandise product.

Why the ReStores?

Habitat Wake ReStores rank first in the nation out of more than 750 ReStores -- an achievement that would have been impossible without our dedicated volunteers. The ReStores raise more than $2.5 million in each year. Those proceeds go directly to Habitat’s mission to build safe, affordable homes in our community in partnership with hardworking families, donors and volunteers. When you volunteer with the ReStores, you are lending your special skills to help your Triangle neighbors. The ReStores are a perfect place for volunteers who don’t necessarily want to swing a hammer but still want to support Habitat Wake’s mission.

Why volunteer?

The benefits of volunteering are well-documented and include:

  • Better health: People who volunteered spent 38 percent fewer nights in the hospital over the course of two years than non-volunteers.

  • Better time management: According to the Harvard Business Review, giving your time to others can make you feel more ‘time affluent’ and less time-constrained than wasting your time, spending it on yourself, or even getting a windfall of free time.

  • New skills and an improved resume: By staying engaged in the in the working world and learning new skills, volunteering can help individuals seeking employment land a new job.

  • Make new friends and stay young: Research shows that individuals with higher social engagement tend to have higher cognitive function as well.
