Meet Us Monday: Anne Polesnak

January 16, 2017

This post is part of a series to help you get to know the many faces at the Habitat Wake ReStores. Check back every other Monday to meet a new face and read a little about the people who make up our great team.

Name and Title: Assistant Manager, Sales Floor/Volunteer Coordinator at the Raleigh ReStore

Home town: Troy, MI

Current town: Raleigh, NC

When did you start working at Habitat Wake? August 2011 - I started at the Cary ReStore as the Assistant Manager/Volunteer Coordinator. I enjoyed creating the volunteer program there and am currently working on creating the same program at the Raleigh ReStore.

What is your favorite thing about working for Habitat? I worked at an organizing store before and sold things to people to put their other things in. I love organizing but it was disheartening after awhile. Here every minute of my work week is spent supporting the mission of Habitat Wake. Whether it's helping a customer find a door knob, teaching a volunteer to organize the lighting section, or helping unload a donation I know it all contributes to our goal to provide affordable housing in our community.

What does your typical work day look like? Walk, talk, walk, talk, walk, talk. Not only do I enjoy talking to and meeting our shoppers, donors, and volunteers I also get in my 10,000+ steps every day!

What do you do in your spare time? Read, organize, spend time with friends, learn from listening to podcasts, and play video games.

Do you have any pets or children? This is my 16 year old cat, Kitty. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old and she has lived in Kalamazoo, MI and Raleigh, NC with me. She used to hiss at everyone she met but has mellowed in her old age. Now you just get a meowrowr as you walk by.

Favorite sport (to play or to watch, or both): Hockey - go 'Canes!

Do you have any strange hidden talents? It's not a completely hidden talent because I love inviting people to come out to shows. I play rock 'n' roll cello and have done so for the past mmmmpf years. Let's not say how long. Let's just say since college :)

Favorite piece you’ve seen or purchased in the ReStore: I do not love bull fighting but there's just something about these figures. I think I'm intrigued by them because someone painted them entirely orange. Except for the bulls horns.
